Lignin Enterprises, LLC (LE) is a privately-held specialty chemical company founded to deliver engineered solutions to facilitate increasing production of the pulp and paper industry to deliver "green" (although lignin is "brown"), cost-effective end-use applications based on lignin. LE creates value through its Sequential Liquid-Lignin Recovery and Purification (SLRP™) process, lignin application development, technology collaboration with universities, and marketing all lignin, regardless of how the lignin is made. Starting in 2009, LE developed a world-class technology to extract lignin, from pulp mills while making the pulp mill more efficient. Over the past decade, the Lignin Enterprises team has been creating demand for lignin through its new-product development based on lignin.
Lignin Enterprises' objective is to commercialize new lignin-based environmentally-friendly lignin recovery and purification processes that enhance global sustainability for leading businesses. Utilizing our team of experienced technology innovators, we form partnerships with members of the innovation pathway from the idea-generator at the university to the end-user at the manufacturing facility. These partnerships allow Lignin Enterprises to rapidly develop and commercialize customer-specific applications.
LE won Phase 1 SBIR grant from DOE; began bench-scale batch experiments on the carbonation system at Clemson.
LE won Phase 2 SBIR grant from DOE; designed and constructed the initial, continuous SLRP pilot plant at Clemson.
LE successfully started up its pilot SLRP and executed numerous runs with a wide variety of black liquor feeds.
Assisted by LE, Clemson's chemical engineering department initiated development of ALPHA to achieve sodium levels less than 100 ppm.
Lignin Enterprises expands its mission to become an integrated manufacturing, marketing, and development company with focus on end-use applications of lignin.
LE signs an agreement with West Fraser (Quesnel, BC, Canada) to market its lignin made in Hinton, AB using the LignoForce process.
LE began marketing a demonstration-scale SLRP plant (1-3 tonnes per day).
LE continues to develop new products and applications based on lignin that deliver strong benefits to its customers.
